When a Harrisonburg area resident finds themselves facing a DWI, they may not know what to do next. A DUI conviction can have serious ramifications for a person. Those who have been arrested for a DUI should understand the consequences of a conviction and the importance of hiring legal counsel. Recently, four people were arrested for driving while intoxicated and other charges.

A recent traffic occurrence happened on Interstate 81. A Virginia State Trooper attempted to pull over a Toyota Corolla because the car was allegedly speeding. Instead of pulling over, the car kept going and continued onto Interstate 66 with speeds in excess of 115 mph. The driver eventually lost control of the car and hit the guardrail. The driver and his passengers were taken into custody.

The driver has been charged with reckless driving, eluding police, possession of marijuana, possession of Schedule I or Schedule II drug and DUI. The three passengers are facing various charges, including underage consumption and drunk in public.

A DUI is a serious charge in Virginia that is aggressively prosecuted. If a person has been arrested for a DUI they need to understand what the consequences can be. Here, a DUI conviction can bring jail time, suspended driver’s license, and thousands of dollars in fines. A DUI can also ruin a person’s good personal and professional reputation. A skilled DUI defense can help tell the accused’s side of the story. With the understanding of the severe penalties a DUI can bring, and working on such a defense to explore one’s options can be the difference between freedom and incarceration.
